Coasts South, West, North and East of El Hierro, South and Northeast of La Palma, Southwest, West, North, Northeast and East of La Gomera, North, Northeast, East, South and West of Tenerife, West and Southwest of Gran Canaria , South, West and Northwest of Fuerteventura (including Lobos), and South and West of Lanzarote.
It is usually found swimming near the bottom (bentopelagic). (Froese & Pauly, 2015)
