Cosmopolitan, it is found in all the great oceans.
Ocean to the Northeast of El Hierro, Southwest, South and East of Tenerife, Northwest and North of Gran Canaria, South, Northwest and East of Fuerteventura, Southeast of Lanzarote and Chinijo archipelago (Graciosa).
Normally, it lives in waters far from the coast, but it is not uncommon for it to get too close to land or even penetrate into rivers or shallow water bays in search of food. It carries out seasonal north-south migrations and usually forms aggregations in waters of high productivity. (Blanco & González, 2006)
