Worldwide distribution

It is a kind of cosmopolitan distribution, although it is more frequent in temperate and cold waters. In both hemispheres it performs seasonal migrations, occupying high latitudes during summer and medium or low in winter.

Distribution in the Canary Islands

Ocean south of La Palma, South of La Gomera, Southwest, Southeast and Northeast of Tenerife, Northwest, Northeast and South of Gran Canaria, South of Fuerteventura and East of Lanzarote.

Origin

Habitat

Species mainly oceanic, which can approach land if the profile of the coast is abrupt and the availability of food is sufficient. During the intensive feeding season (summer) it is concentrated in areas of high productivity. During the breeding season (winter) the population disperses in very large areas, without its location attending to specific oceanographic characteristics. (Blanco & González, 2006)
