Ocean to the Southwest, Southeast and East of El Hierro, West, Northwest and Northeast of La Palma, North, Northwest, West, Southwest, South and Southeast of La Gomera, practically the entire coast and the ocean around Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Southwest , South, Southeast, East and Northeast of Fuerteventura, Southeast, East, Northeast and West of Lanzarote, and chinijo archipelago (Montaña Clara).

There are two forms or ecotypes; one known as "neritic", which lives on bottoms less than 100-200 m deep, and another "oceanic", which inhabits the deep waters far from the coast. (Blanco & González, 2006)
