It is found in the waters of continental shelves, bays, lagoons and estuaries, and sometimes even in ports. It is common in surface waters of the continental slope. The first stages of their biological cycle, pass them in pelagic habitat. When they reach a shell size of 52 cm, they settle in benthic habitats. The duration of the pelagic stage is very variable (3-10 years). The juvenile benthic phase until reaching sexual maturity can last up to 20 years; During this period and later, they show great fidelity to the feeding areas and return to them after the subsequent reproductive migrations.
