Cosmopolitan whose reproductive beaches are distributed approximately at latitudes between 40º N and 35º S. Its range of distribution is very broad, as a result of the good capacity of this species to regulate body temperature. It has been observed in latitudes of 60º N in Alaskan waters and up to latitude 71º N in the Eastern Atlantic. It has large breeding aggregations in Guyana in the Atlantic. Other important places for laying are concentrated in Central and South America, and in Gabon, in the Eastern Atlantic. In the Mediterranean it is a species present in all basins and throughout the year, which is why it is considered common in the region.
Coasts West of Tenerife, Southwest and Northwest of Gran Canaria and South of Fuerteventura.
Its main habitat is the oceanic waters and the open sea of all the oceans. Its alimentary habit based mainly on invertebrate swimmers present in the water column and jellyfish causes it to be in the high seas associated with the great oceanic currents. (Pleguezuelos et al., 2002)
