Worldwide distribution

Canary Islands, Azores and Madeira. Mediterranean, Eastern Atlantic, from the British Isles to Morocco.

Distribution in the Canary Islands

Costas Sur, Southeast, Southwest, West and Northeast of La Palma, South, Southeast and East of Tenerife, Northwest, Northeast, East, Southeast and Southwest of Gran Canaria, North of Fuerteventura (including Lobos), and South and Southeast of Lanzarote. Dubious its presence to the Southwest of La Gomera.

Origin

Habitat

It lives in detritic bottoms and among algae of rocky bottoms (1-50 m), in meadows of the phanerogam. (Brito et al., 2002)

Population data

In the censuses carried out in 2002 and 2003, 3 specimens were found in Gran Canaria and 1 in Lanzarote. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)
