It is distributed in the Mediterranea, in the Black Sea and in Madeira.
Northeast, East, Southeast and South of Gran Canaria, South, East, Northwest and Northeast of Fuerteventura (including Lobos), East, West and North of Lanzarote, and Chinijo archipelago (Graciosa).
It forms lawns in eulittoral platforms (between the maximum lines of high tide and low tide) of protected places, retaining much sand. (Haroun et al., 2003)
