Worldwide distribution

Canary Islands, Azores and Madeira. European Atlantic coasts from northwest Spain to Norway and Iceland. There are related plants, perhaps of the same species, in other ocean regions of the world, including Japan, New Zealand, Tasmania, Kerguelen and Tristan da Cunha.

Habitat

Epífito on heather bark, in fayal-heathland, with predominance of heather, in very venteadas crests, submitted to the direct incidence of mists in most of the year, except in summer. (Sánchez, 2003)

Population data

In 2010, in La Gomera, 10 individuals were surveyed in a very small area. (Sánchez, T. 2010)
