Canary endemic
Northwest and Southeast of La Palma, East and South of La Gomera, practically the entire island of Tenerife (except in the Center), and North, Northeast and East of Gran Canaria.
A component species of shrub thickets linked to the thermophilic forests of juniper and wild olive, more rarely in its transition to the dry pine forests of the southern slopes. Poor, slightly acid soils (Gómez et al., 1996)
In the census conducted in 2012, 364 individuals in different growth phases were counted in Tenerife. The localities of Playa de Santo Domingo and El Porqueros ravine are considered missing; in La Palma 150 specimens of different ages; In La Gomera 4 adults and in Gran Canaria 29 specimens of different ages.
