Habitat

It is found in the northern peaks of the island, between 1800 and 2400 msm (Gómez et al., 1996)

Population data

In censuses carried out in 2005 by the La Caldera de Taburiente NP, there were 4,926 adults, 4,127 juveniles and 4,485 seedlings. There has been a reduction of at least 48% in the number of adult specimens since the last census of 2001. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)
