Canary endemic

Distribution in the Canary Islands

South, East, Northwest Fuerteventura (probably extinct in the Center of the island), and Southeast of Lanzarote.

Origin

Habitat

It grows in coastal or sub-coastal environments, where it grows in barranquillos, slopes, gravel beaches, small rock fissures, platforms, etc., observing a certain appetite for areas with somewhat removed soils. It is part of thickets of altered environments and with saline contribution by the action of the maresía, although in some ravines it can occur in tabaibales-cardonales. (Bañares et al., 2004)

Population data

The available data (2003) number the subspecies in Fuerteventura in 545 specimens and in Lanzarote in 3,057 specimens. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)
