Origin

Habitat

Forest bird, linked almost exclusively to the most developed pine forests. Sometimes visit bordering areas with this type of formations. In general, the nests are placed in holes made in dead pine trunks, and occasionally live trees. In addition, it can be built in Eucalyptus, Castaño, Peral, Palmera, inflorescences of Pitera and Escobón (exceptionally in telephone poles or power lines and in boxes-nests). Probably perform dispersive movements within the pine forest. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)

Population data

In 1998 the population was estimated between 125 and 166 couples. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2004)
