Distribution in the Canary Islands

Center-South of La Gomera, West of Gran Canaria, practically the whole island of Fuerteventura (including Lobos, except South of the island), Lanzarote and the Chinijo archipelago (Roque del Este, Graciosa, Montaña Clara and Alegranza).

Origin

Habitat

The species is typical of the basal floor and medianies, especially in areas where there are ravines, slopes and coastal cliffs. Frequent crops, and often penetrates towns and cities. It nests in cracks or volcanic tubes, usually in ravine walls, but also in picon extractions and in abandoned houses. Probably performs dispersive movements of several kilometers. It is possible that they move between the islands. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)

In the census conducted in 2011, the population was estimated at 151 couples: 90 couples for Lanzarote, 1 for La Graciosa, 1 for Montaña Clara, 7 for Alegranza, 1 for Lobos, and 52 for Fuerteventura. (Siverio, M., 2001).
