Widely distributed by Eurasia, it is also present in Africa (mainly central-eastern) as wintering.
Virtually the whole Island of El Hierro (except the South), North, Center and East of La Palma, Center, West, East and South of La Gomera, practically the entire island of Tenerife, and Center, North, West and East of Great Canaria.
Eminently forest habitat. (Martí & del Moral, 2003)
It is estimated between 150-200 pairs (Madroño et al., 2004)
