Macaronesia, coast of China, to Hawaii and Las Marquesas.
Practically all the islands of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera and Tenerife, Northwest and West of Gran Canaria, practically all the islands of Fuerteventura (including Lobos) and Lanzarote, and Chinijo archipelago (Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este ).
The nesting takes place mainly under rocks and in crevices, but they can also use huras in earthy or sandy places, sometimes in badlands and even under very dense vegetation. The species leaves the archipelago after reproduction, heading to the western Atlantic between Venezuela and Brazil and the United States. In addition, some individuals may move southward throughout West Africa, although in general they do not surpass the Gulf of Guinea. Accidentally they reach Portugal, Great Britain and even the Mediterranean. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
The population is estimated around 1,000 couples (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2004)
