Canary Islands and Madeira. Iberian Peninsula and North Africa.
Virtually the whole island of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife (except central region) and Gran Canaria. Doubt his presence in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
It adapts to artificial places (gardens and parks in towns and cities), being present in diverse parts of the South of the islands, taking advantage of the green zones of the tourist nuclei and the cultures in the bed of the ravines. They are particularly abundant in avocado plantations as well as in Indian laurel groves in towns and cities. In general it does not surpass the altitudinal range of the monteverde, being occasional only in pine forests with an important development of the understory. Possibly the natural habitat of this species corresponds to the lower edge of the monteverde, the thermophilic forest and the channels of ravines where willow groves develop. The nest is very rudimentary, being possible to observe its content through it. It is usually located in bushes and trees, at heights that range between 0.3 and 4.5 m. Some specimens make altitudinal movements from the cultivation areas to the monteverde. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
