Distribution in the Canary Islands

Center, West, Northeast, Southeast and South of La Palma, practically the whole island of La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Origin

Habitat

Species very linked to areas with fresh water, both in the bed of ravines, as in artificial environments (dams, ponds, canals, etc.). It often penetrates urban centers, and exceptionally it can be seen in the intertidal zone. The nest is usually located in hollows of walls, walls of ravines, edges of ponds, tracks and roads, houses, etc. This species makes altitudinal displacements within the islands, and can even cross small straits of sea reaching roques near the main islands. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
