It inhabits the temperate and warm regions of all the great oceans. It is especially abundant in the Mediterranean, the temperate and warm waters of the North Pacific and the North Atlantic, South Africa and some regions of the Indian Ocean.
Ocean to the Southeast of El Hierro, South of La Palma, West, Southwest, South and Southeast of La Gomera, Northwest, East, Southwest, Southeast and Northeast of Tenerife, Southwest, South, East, Northeast and North of Gran Canaria, South, Southeast, East and Northwest of Fuerteventura and South, Southeast, East, Northwest and West of Lanzarote.
It preferably inhabits waters with a surface temperature between 18 and 25º C. In general, it is an animal with eminently pelagic habits. (Ministry of the Environment, 2006)
