Worldwide distribution

Canary Islands and Madeira. Tropical Western Atlantic and Eastern Atlantic, from Mauritania to Angola. A date is known in Portugal.

Distribution in the Canary Islands

Coasts West, Northeast, Southeast, South and Southwest of El Hierro, practically all the coast of La Palma, South of La Gomera, South and West of Tenerife, Northeast, East and South of Gran Canaria, North of Fuerteventura (including Lobos), and Lanzarote (without locality).

Origin

Habitat

It inhabits rocky bottoms on coasts between 5 and 50 m deep, usually in hollows and caves during the day. (Brito et al., 2002)
