Worldwide distribution

Canary Islands, Azores and Cape Verde. It is present from Scandinavia to the South of Cape Verde passing through the northwest of the British Isles, Mediterranean and Gulf of Guinea.

Distribution in the Canary Islands

South and East Coasts of La Palma, Northeast and Southwest of La Gomera, West, Northwest, Northeast, Southeast and South of Tenerife, North, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and South of Gran Canaria, Southwest, East and North Center of Fuerteventura, South , East, West and North of Lanzarote, and Chinijo archipelago (Graciosa, Roque del Este and Alegranza).

Origin

Habitat

In the Canary Islands, this species has been systematically located on rocky substrates, either whitish, sandy or vegetated, between 0 and 40 m deep. Other observations also place it deeper, up to 100 m. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)

Population data

In the censuses carried out in 2003, 45 individuals were counted: 24 in Gran Canaria, 5 in Fuerteventura and 16 in Lanzarote and islets. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)
