Macaronesian Endemism (Madeira and the Canary Islands)
It is presented practically in the whole of the islands of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Center of Fuerteventura, and Northeast of Lanzarote.
It grows in cracks and rocky escarpments, in semi-somber and humid places or slightly exposed, mainly in zones of north orientation subjected to the influence of the trade winds, in areas that go from the upper limit of the basal floor to the highest levels of the monteverde. (Pérez & Hernández, 1999)
There are no precise data on the population size or its historical evolution. Only information is available from a part of the population of Lomo de Carretón, on Epina, where 80 specimens were counted and the presence of hundreds of specimens was estimated between Ojila and the Bailadero. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)
