Canary endemic

Distribution in the Canary Islands

South, Center and North of Fuerteventura, and South, Center and Northwest of Lanzarote.

Origin

Habitat

It grows in the high zones and especially towards the most humid zones, in slopes, rocky places, cliffs and platforms. From the upper part of the cardonal-tabaibal to the highest part of the islands (670 msm in Lanzarote and 810 msm in Fuerteventura), where it develops best among the formations of thermophilic forests. (Gómez et al., 1996)

Population data

In the census carried out in 2003 for Fuerteventura, the population was estimated at 10,800. In Lanzarote, 146 specimens were counted, but it is estimated that the population must be larger due to the inaccessibility of the land, which hinders prospecting. (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2009)
