It occupies a narrow circum-Mediterranean latitudinal belt, which encompasses southern Europe and northern Africa, Afghanistan, China and Korea, reaching as far as Japan. In Europe it is distributed through the Mediterranean region, Spain, southeast of France, southern Switzerland, Italy, and Adriatic coasts to Greece, including the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean islands.
Virtually all El Hierro (except the Southwest coast), La Palma (except Southeast), La Gomera, Tenerife (except South coast and Sueste) and Center, South and Northeast of Gran Canaria.
It takes refuge in rocky outcrops, marine cliffs and artificial structures such as bridges and buildings. They feed on inhabited nuclei and open spaces in a wide altitudinal range. It appears from sea level to 2,300 m altitude. (Palomo et al., 2007)
