Canary Islands, Azores and Madeira. From the S of Iceland to the northwest of France. Newfoundland and some islets of the northern United States.
North, Northwest, Northeast and East of La Palma, and North, Northwest and West of Tenerife. Dubious his presence in La Gomera and El Hierro.
It nests inland, sometimes several kilometers from the coast (up to 1000 meters above sea level), in steep areas of the Monteverde. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
In 2000 the population was estimated between 500 and 1,000 individuals (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2004). In 2007 it is estimated that the population in La Palma is greater than 200 couples and in 2008 38 individuals are counted (Trujillo, D., 2008)
