Canaries and Azores. Tropics and subtropics of the Atlantic and Pacific. It nests in the islands of Japan, Hawaii, Galapagos, Belengas (Portugal), Ascension and Santa Elena.
East and West of El Hierro, Southwest, North, Northeast, East and Southeast of Tenerife, South and East of Fuerteventura (including Lobos), South, West, Northwest of Lanzarote, and Chinijo archipelago (Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este and Funny)
Breeding in crevices, under rocks or in caves. It can be seen throughout the year, but probably most of its members leave the waters of the archipelago from February to June. The species disperses in the ocean, arriving some units to Finland, Great Britain, France, Iberian Peninsula and the Eastern coast of the United States. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
It is estimated that the population is less than 300 couples (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2004)
