Canary Islands and Madeira. Iberian Peninsula to Mongolia and Northeast China, and North Africa.
Virtually the entire island of El Hierro (except Southwest), Northwest, Northeast, West and South of La Palma, La Gomera (except the North), Tenerife (except the Center) and Gran Canaria.
Currently relegated to areas of mediocrity and basal floor with little human presence. The nest is usually located at low altitude, in holes and cracks of houses, stone walls, and walls of ravines. They congregate on numerous sides after the nesting. At that time, its presence can be verified in remote areas a few kilometers from its breeding sites. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
In the censuses carried out in 2006 and 2007 it is estimated at 720 individuals: 181 in Gran Canaria, 168 in Tenerife, 200 in La Gomera and 171 in El Hierro. It is considered extinct in La Palma since the beginning of the century. (García-del-Rey, E., 2008)
