Worldwide distribution

Virtually cosmopolitan, missing only from Australasia and the northernmost regions of the Holarctic (the limit is set by approximately the 50th parallel).

Distribution in the Canary Islands

Virtually the entire coast of Tenerife (except the East and South-Central coast of the Island), and Northeast of Gran Canaria.

Origin

Habitat

Regular and irregular wintering, scarce. Solitary specimens or small groups are usually detected, although in migration they have seen important sides. His nocturnal and crepuscular habits make him go unnoticed among the vegetation of the ponds and dams. In the eastern islands it has also been seen in gardens of tourist complexes and even on the coast. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
