Worldwide distribution

Distribution in the Canary Islands

Chinijo archipelago (Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Alegranza and Roque del Este).

Origin

Habitat

It nests in huras excavated in the sand, generally taking advantage of plant roots. Possibly after the reproduction they disperse towards the west, and perhaps some arrive at the American coasts (North Carolina - New England) as they make copies of the population of Cape Verde. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)

Population data

In the census conducted in 2011, the population was estimated in 57 breeding pairs: 53 in Montaña Clara and 4 in Alegranza. (Rodríguez & Fariña, 2011)
