Canary Islands. Northeast Atlantic (from the South of Iceland and Norway) and Mediterranean.

Distribution in the Canary Islands

East and West of El Hierro, West, Southwest, South, Suresete and Northeast of La Gomera, Southwest, Northwest and Northeast of Tenerife, Southeast, East and Northwest of Fuerteventura (including Lobos), and chinijo archipelago (Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara and Roque del Este).

Origin

Habitat

It nests in crevices, under rocks, and inside caves. After breeding the birds leave the waters of the archipelago, and are likely to move south until they reach the waters of Namibia and South Africa. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)

Population data

The population is estimated at 1,000 nesting pairs (Vice-Ministry of the Environment, 2004)
