Canary endemic

Distribution in the Canary Islands

Virtually the whole island of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Origin

Habitat

It occupies a great diversity of habitats, being able to be observed from practically the level of the sea to the scrub of high mountain. It is present in both forest and shrubland or scrub formations. It is also very common in brambles, crops, gardens and parks. Only avoid the most xeric areas with little development of vegetation. The nest, spherical and lateral entry, is located at very variable heights depending on the habitat. This species is quite sedentary and faithful to its territories, although some movements, mainly altitudinal, after reproduction are not ruled out. (Martín & Lorenzo, 2001)
